The First Forty Days Launches Today!

BookCover2_Low The First Forty Days: The Essential Art of Nourishing the New Mother is released by ABRAMs publishers today! The book was born from my passion for caring and cooking for new mothers and it turned out more beautifully than I could have ever imagined.

The First Forty Days is inspired by the global traditions of postpartum care, which encourage a new mother to focus on healing from pregnancy and birth and bonding with her baby. My co-authors and I reinterpreted these ancient ways for the modern mother and her family and the result is a practical, honest, loving guide to a time that is crucial for a mother’s and child’s wellbeing. It features 60 simple and delicious recipes to nourish, restore, and promote lactation after baby is born, gorgeous photos, and words of wisdom that a woman can turn to for reassurance in the wild and unpredictable first weeks of motherhood.

Early response from mothers and those in the birthing community has been tremendously enthusiastic and as I talk to more and more mothers about the book and its mission—to help every new mother claim a supported period of recovery and integration after giving birth—I keep hearing the same sentiment, “I wish I had had this book during my postpartum period.” The feeling is understandable, but there is no need for regret. The book’s guidance is timeless and the recipes will support you not just during postpartum, but for all the chapters of motherhood that follow.

We launch just in time for Mother’s Day (May 8), which is perfect timing because the book is a heartfelt gift for the person who always seems to get left out of the baby shower gifts—mom!

I am incredibly grateful to be able to serve mothers and my hope is that this book will start a new conversation, placing the mama at the forefront of the postpartum experience.

With gratitude,
Heng
